Where To Take The Best Photos In Washington, DC

SHARE THE LOVE!

It’s finally here, and we’re doing it for the ‘gram! After spending a few years in the DC area, I want to share five of the best places to take artsy photos. What I love most about DC are the hidden gems and creativity. If you plan to visit in the near future, be sure to save this post and share it!

1. Blagden Alley

Blagden Alley is one of the most instagrammable places in DC for sure! If you blink, you’ll likely miss the alleyway to a series of colorful murals painted on garage doors of several buildings. I’ve been to the alley on several occasions for photo ops and had a great experience every time. Most popular places in the DC area can get congested very quickly. Usually, my goal is to arrive early in the morning; however, I’ve visited the alley throughout various times of the day, and there wasn’t a crowd. πŸ‘

By inserting ‘Blagden Aly NW‘ into your GPS should take you to the alley. If you prefer an actual address, La Colombe Coffee is located in the alley and will take you directly to the murals.

2. 1851 S. Bell Street

1851 S. Bell Street is located in Arlington, Virginia. There’s over 28 art walls in Crystal City. The walls are easily accessible by walking or biking the area. If you prefer to drive, you can do that as well. There is street parking, but beware if you visit during the day Monday-Saturday, you’ll have to pay to park.

There were a few times I attempted to take photos, but failed miserably 😭. Crystal City has many office buildings, so avoid going during business hours. The photo displayed was taken on a Saturday, bright and early in the morning! It was the best time to explore, so remember the early bird gets the worm first!

Since this area is quite busy, there’s a list of restaurants nearby. I would definitely recommend stopping by Good Stuff Eatery! During my meat eating days, I had their farmhouse burger, and it was good AF!

3. Union Market

There’s SO much to love about Union Market! There’s food (y’all know I love to eat 😊), shops, wall art and all sorts of events! Union Market is the perfect place to hang out during the summer months. If you’re looking to beat the crowd, get there early or visit during the colder months.

There are many photo ops here! A few of my favorites would be the wall with colorful hearts, follow your heart mural πŸ–€ and the solid color walls! It’s always easy to match an outfit with a solid color wall for the ‘gram! πŸ˜‰

Union Market is located at 1309 5th St NE.

4. DC Kiwi Wall/Watermelon House

The Watermelon House and DC Kiwi Wall are for sure a must-see! If you visit the Logan Circle area of DC, you should definitely stop by to check it out!
The story behind the Watermelon House is that the owners hired someone to paint it red, but it was pinker than they anticipated. Welp, instead of fixing it, the owners decided to paint a few seeds with a green border on the side and turn it into a watermelon! Pretty neat, right?

The address to visit the Watermelon House and DC Kiwi Wall is 1112 Q Street NW. Just a heads-up, parking stinks since it is a residential area, and the streets are very narrow.

5. Polkadot Park

Polkadot Park 🌈is located in downtown Hyattsville, Maryland, and is a short distance from DC. Driving to the area is a breeze, and you can park for free near the Polkadot Park. The murals are within walking distance, so it was an easy walk to my car.

I first discovered Polkadot Park on Instagram! To liven up the area, many of the abandoned commercial buildings were painted over in bright colors, designs, and murals, and now it’s poppin’ up all over the ‘gram!

If you’re interested in visiting Polkadot Park, the location is 4320 Hamilton St, Hyattsville, MD.

DC has limitless opportunities to capture creative photos! If you plan to visit the area, be sure to check out one of the places listed above. Also, be sure to check this post for updates! 😊

Thank you for reading!

Ashlee
